_Kenkō Studios

RENOVATION / AUCKLAND CITY

Kenkō Studios breathes new life into a 1982 Japanese brutalist building in the heart of Uptown, Auckland. Once stark + uninspired, it has been transformed into a sanctuary for the wellness community - a place to move, connect + restore.

On arrival, a serene courtyard welcomes you with water features and abundant greenery, setting a calm tone before you step inside. The ground floor hosts a collective of health and wellness practitioners, while the centrepiece is a spacious studio designed for yoga, pilates, breathwork + sound baths.

The interiors, once heavy cinderblock, now glow with natural mineral Venetian plaster, creating a soft, grounding atmosphere that honours the building’s strength while inviting ease and reflection.

As both designers and brand creators, Good_Space shaped Kenkō Studios holistically - from the architecture and materials to the name and philosophy. The offering is simple yet powerful: movement, connection, upgrade, glow, and slow.

Kenkō Studios is more than a venue. It’s a collective heartbeat for Auckland’s wellness community, where people come together to nurture health, balance, and belonging.

    • Natural mineral-based plaster effect applied to all walls in the studio

    • Non-toxic paint was used in all areas

    • Enhanced fresh air ventilation added to the ground floor spaces

    • A focus on-toxic materials was implemented with the support of the building team + contractors

    • Calming water feature added to the courtyard to set the scene

    • Water-efficient tap ware + toilet was installed

    • Plentiful natural light now floods the studio space with the installation of windows that look down to the expansive courtyard

    • All of the old lighting was replaced by energy efficient and non-flicker LED

    • Greenery both in the courtyard + the interior spaces feature heavily throughout

    • The connection to the outside courtyard is enhanced with the new landscaping design

    • Street noise was mitigated via the double glazed windows

    • The outside water feature provides a natural sound masking for the property

    • Styling with various secondhand items including the feature pendants and carefully curated art + objects

“Jade and I have enjoyed working together on a few projects now, the best projects are a collaboration and Jade is a dream collaborator. She has a great design eye, is fun to work with and a great human. She also knows how to get it done. If you are lucky enough to work with Jade then I salute you.”
